Tuesday Tune Up, Weekly Check In, Food, Fitness, Family, Duran Duran

Hey there!  How are you?  What’s been going on?

The Tuesday Tune-Up is where we can have a weekly virtual coffee date and catch up a bit.

Last week was a super busy week but now that we’re in June, I’m trying to be a little more Zen about chaos that will soon ensue (school being out for summer).

Food, Tuesday Tune-Up

Trying to eat healthy when there’s a lot on your plate (pun sort of intended), isn’t easy.

For me, breakfast sets the tone so if I can get something with some fat, carbs and protein to start the day, I feel like I’m already on a good foot.  This waffle combination of ricotta cheese, honey and fruit and almond butter with chocolate dusted almonds (oh yes, coffee is also part of this fueling breakfast), has been working for me lately:

Jay and I did get to try a new restaurant in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, All’acqua for a Sunday night dinner out.

Although the place looked like they had great pizzas, I’m a small plates kind of girl and enjoyed Burrata Bruschetta, Mussels (the best I’ve had in a long while) and Pasta Handkerchiefs with Pesto.  Forgive me, I didn’t take photos of any of my food.

I did taste my first Negroni ever though!  Of course right before the beginning of Negroni Week (June 1st – 7th when bars around the world will give portions of each Negroni sold to charity)!  If you’ve never had a Negroni (they’re a bit strong (gin, vermouth and Campari – kind of summery), now’s certainly the time to try one!

Fitness, FitFluential, SweatPink, BurnThis, Tuesday Tune-UP

Pilates Physical Therapy only happened once this week so I relied upon some YouTube videos to get me through.  I liked this 30 Minute Whole Body Pilates video and didn’t care too much for this one by Crunch: SuperSlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend.  The Crunch video had a lot of reaching twists that weren’t great for my particular injury but the workout wasn’t too difficult.

My PT and I discussed moving me over to the running PT (who broke my heart when he banned me from running and spinning and then transferred me to Pilates therapy after my last injury – you can read all about it here).  I’m definitely not 100% but I’m starting to get very antsy.

FitBloggin'

FitBloggin’ is coming at the end of this month and gets me thinking back to the awesome 10K run I did with Jeff Galloway at last year’s conference.  I likely won’t be able to do a 10K by the end of the month but I’m hoping I’ll be able to walk/run a 5K.  We shall see.

Family

Saturday was Bloggy Bootcamp (BBC) in Temecula and it was a chance to connect with my virtual family of fellow bloggers.  BBC is a day long blogger education event hosted by the SITSGirls collective.  These conferences are fun, educational and always help me discover (or rediscover) why I continue blogging.

You might have seen this posted on my Instagram.

I attended my first BBC (in Vegas) about 3 months after I moved to Los Angeles in 2012 and the experience helped me gain the courage to start a blog.  BBC Vegas also helped me bring me into the fold of the blogging community at large.  I’ve gotten so much from this community that I do consider them to be my virtual family.

It was great to see people like Alyssa@LaLaLyssa, Debbie@CoachDebbieRuns, Cynthia@LifeByCynthia, Heather@It’sALovelyLife, Carolyn@ThisTalkAin’tCheap, Lisa@RunWiki, Elizabeth@FlourishInProgress, Christiana@SpillingCoffeenDroppingThings and Nicole@TheJetSetFam, to name a few.  At a one day conference, it’s hard to really catch up and talk (especially if you only drive down for the day and rush home).

While I was at BBC Temecula, Wild Boy made the catch of his baseball team playoff game.

Wild Boy plays catcher on his baseball team. He loves thinking that he’s the 3rd coach of the team.

It’s hard not to feel parental guilt when you miss these type of things.  Getting time to do things for yourself as a parent isn’t easy.  It’s a choice and takes effort, finesse and coordination.  It’s important to do things for your soul beyond parental obligations.  My family is very supportive of my passions but even so, it was hard to miss this pivotal play.  I know I’m not supposed to feel guilty but I do.

In other family news, we’re now a two car household (temporarily). Our lease for our KIA Soul was about to expire and after a second test drive of the Subaru Forester, we found ourselves with a new car lease.

Suburbs = station wagony-SUV.

The car is lovely it’s just that I’m still coming to terms with the fact that this car screams suburbs.  It’s still hard for me to believe that in July it will be 3 years since we left Brooklyn.

Duran Duran, music, 80's music, New Wave, Tuesday Tune-Up

On the Duran Duran front, DDHQ is teasing fans something fierce!  They keep dangling future appearance announcements (but nothing in the US except the Life Is Beautiful festival in September yet).  I’m seriously on pins and needles to hear what might be coming soon!

However, did you see the #DDFortuneTeller on the Duran Duran website?

Click here to check it out.

It’s adorable and getting many fans super excited!

Today I’d like to be in NYC (Jay is there but I’m not!) because there is a Duran Duran themed indoor cycling ride at Peloton Cycle.  I have no affiliation with Peloton and I don’t know Christine M D’Ercole but I’m already a fan of the studio and this instructor!

We need one of these Duran themed rides in LA!

Peloton, could you get Christine out here, please?

So that’s a summary of what’s been going on in my world this week.

It’s June and we’re nearly halfway through 2015!  How’s it shaping up for you so far?
