Tuesday Tune Up, Weekly Check In, Food, Fitness, Family, Duran Duran

Hey there!  How are you?  What’s been going on?

The Tuesday Tune-Up is where we can have a weekly virtual coffee date and catch up a bit.

I was out of touch last week (deadline and a sick kid kept me from blogging) but here’s what’s been going on!

Food, Tuesday Tune-Up

This last week was such a blur that I’m lucky that I remember eating anything at all.  It was a week that I went out to eat way more than I should have.  We all have those weeks though, right?

I did get to enjoy an Ahi Tuna Salad at Umami Burger in DTLA (yup, that’s what you eat if you don’t eat beef).  My family has always wanted to go to Umami because of the Fleischman connection (the founder of Umami is Adam Fleischman and Jay is also a Fleischman).  My salad was gorgeous and delicious and my guys loved their burgers as well.

I also attended a ceremony sponsored by got milk that celebrated eight amazing women representing the #BetterFutureMoms in the state of California.  You might have remembered that I participated in the promotional campaign for this effort back in May.  The stories of these women show the determination to make lives better for themselves, their children and their communities.

Better Future Moms, Got milk,

I attended the ceremony to honor the achievements of these fabulous women but never expected to be honored by got milk as well.  It was lovely to receive an award (a very heavy one!) from fellow mom, Andrea Navedo of “Jane The Virgin”.

If you like eating as much as I do and supporting good causes, you might want to know about the special partnership that Chipotle has formed with the AIDS organization, RED.

Chipotle, RED

Because burritos are one of my favorite foods and because it’s a great cause, I’m spreading the word about the Chipotle limited edition (RED) gift card in honor of National HIV Testing Day.  This special gift card is available for purchase in restaurants and online at www.chipotle.com/RED on June 27th only!  Chipotle will donate a portion of the sales value of every (RED) gift card purchase of $25 or more to the Global Fund, up to $100,000.

The fact that 11 celebrity chefs and television personalities (including Richard Blais, Graham Elliot, Andrew Zimmern and Rocco DiSpirito) have created special recipes to support the EAT (RED) DRINK (RED) SAVE LIVES campaign make this all the more enticing.  So many of us love Chipotle so this Saturday might be a great day to treat yourself to lunch or dinner and give back to an ongoing effort that still needs your help!

Side note:  The fight against AIDS holds a special place in my heart.  I worked in an AIDS organization during college and watched many people fight against this disease.  We’ve come a very long way since the late 80’s but the fight still continues.  Anytime I can support an AIDS organization, I’ll do so gladly!

Fitness, FitFluential, SweatPink, BurnThis, Tuesday Tune-UP

I have some fitness news – #1:  I have a new Physical Therapist that says I can run again…for one minute on a grass surface.  Yes, only one minute and with the direction to increase by one minute every other day.  If I feel any bit of pain, I have reduce the time one minute and stay at that time frame until I can increase without feeling pain.  I may not be able to run hard but getting back to some form of running may make me a happier person overall!

Run Hard

Another thing making me happy is that I’m going to Denver for FitBloggin’ 2015 this week!  This conference is always such a blast!  Fitness with fun people and blogger education, it’s a little working vacation that I’ve looked forward to since last year.

FitBloggin' 2015

If you are attending FitBloggin’, you might want to find me onsite because I’ll be giving away some very special jewelry pieces from Momentum Jewelry (watch my Twitter and Instagram for details coming soon)!

Family

Wild Boy was sick with strep throat this week so when I wasn’t working on a deadline, I was on mom duty.  It’s awful to watch your little one in pain and with fever but it’s nice when your child (who isn’t a baby anymore), wants mom to comfort them.

Mom-Quote-Home-is

My little guy is growing up and I’ll take any chance I can get to hug and hold him.  I never thought that 8 would seem so far away from 5 or even 6.  You’re always aware that children grow up (and sometimes you can’t wait – the infant stage was a horror show in my house) but when they actually do the growing up, it seems way too fast!

If you’re a parent, treasure your time with your young children.  You never know when the last time you’ll get to snuggle with them, kiss them, hold their hand or have them need you in a way that they won’t as they grow up.  Wow, I sound like an old lady but it’s so very true and if you don’t take the time to realize it, the opportunity to enjoy something special may just pass you by.

Duran Duran, music, 80's music, New Wave, Tuesday Tune-Up

Oh, there’s been a ton of Duran Duran news recently – so much news that I wrote a whole post about it yesterday

For my East Coast/New York Duran Duran friends, I’m thrilled that another show on 8/1/15 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester was announced yesterday.  Wishing all ticket buyers good luck on Friday, 6/26 at 12pm EST!

So that’s a summary of what’s been going on in my world this week.
