No, I normally don’t post on Sundays but today is one special Sunday.
It’s Duran Duran Appreciation Day!
I’ve met many people who chuckle when they read that my blog tagline is, “Dietitian born to love food, fitness, family and Duran Duran” – some because they think it’s kitschy, some because they find it odd and uncomfortable laughter is all they can muster and some because it’s not every day that you meet someone who is ok with telling the world that they are a big time Duranie!
For some people Duran Duran may just be that 80’s band that revolutionized music videos but for others, Duran Duran are a band that has been around since 1978 and has found a way to keep their finger on the trends of contemporary music, fashion, art, media and technology.
Duran Duran has devoted core audience of fans and they’re ridiculously passionate (me included). It’s amazing how many Duranies there are out there. Author and Duranie, Elisa Lorello put out a Sing Blue Silver Virtual Viewing Party on Facebook and the attendees at this point are 600 people!
Social media has allowed Duran Duran fans to connect with one another and with the band on levels like never before. The day that DDHQ acknowledged this blog was a day that I couldn’t stop smiling!
Believe it or not, Duran Duran has brought some great people into my universe via social media and IRL. Duranies were my first social media community – they were the people that I followed and connected with on Twitter. They were (and still are) some of the most engaging, encouraging and wonderful people I’m connected with. Many Duranies not only share a similar devotion to this band but a great sense of humor and support for one another as human beings.
I’m really looking forward to the next Duran Duran album not only for the music and the chance to see the band on tour but to possibly connect and meet some of my Duranie friends IRL. Tomorrow, I’ll celebrate Duran Duran Appreciation Day with my 2nd Annual Duran Duran 10K and chronicle it on Monday’s blog but for now I’ll just wish you all a great Sunday and to all of my Duranie friends, a wonderful Duran Duran Appreciation Day.
Thank you Duran Duran and thank you all of my Duranie Friends!
Tell me which Duran Duran song or video is your favorite and why?
Luv your blog post about Duran Duran appreciation day. Lucky you were able to save your pillow with all the buttons. I remember I had that giant button. I don’t know where it is now. My favorite Duran Duran song or video is Rio, not to mention it has a catchy tune, the video is just haute and sexy and the album cover Rio if I’m not mistaken is designed by Patrick Nagel.
You are absolutely right Ruchel. The Rio cover is by Patrick Nagel. His distinct art style is always so eye catching. My favorite DD song is “Hold Back The Rain” from Rio.
Ah, Melissa, I love this! Love you, too!!
