Tuesday Tune Up, Weekly Check In, Food, Fitness, Family, Duran Duran

Hey there!  How are you?  What’s been going on?

The Tuesday Tune-Up is where we can have a weekly virtual coffee date and catch up a bit.

I get to share some of the adventures I’ve been having lately when it comes to food, fitness, family and Duran Duran (and other music) and you let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments!

Want to #breaktheinternet with me on 2/14?  Go to the Duran Duran star below.

Food, Tuesday Tune-Up

Well, all those intentions about cooking more often at home went to hell in a hand basket this week.  With limited mobility, home cooked meals were not top priority on the agenda.  Take out (Vietamese and Japanese) ruled my house this past week.

However, Wild Boy has been very inspired by Master Chef Junior lately and has been creating dessert dishes some nights.  It’s fun to see what he creates.

Now, if we could only get him to eat a wider variety of foods (bad dietitian Mom).

As a treat, I took myself to a new espresso bar called Lavender & Honey in Pasadena.  The static website is a shame because this gorgeous little oasis of food and drink has a variety of fancy coffees, gourmet toasts (yes, toast bars are hot), sandwiches and pastries.

There was no doubt that I was going to try the Honeybee Latte and a Lavender and Honey toast (lavender, honey and goat cheese on a sourdough toast) – Melissa means honeybee in Greek and I adore flowers in my food (I think I mentioned that last week with my lavender drink, right?).

There is also a heart on the Honeybee Latte that made this Valentine Melissa know that this coffee was her destiny!

Everything was delicious and I can’t wait to go back here sometime soon.

Fitness, FitFluential, SweatPink, BurnThis, Tuesday Tune-UP

Fitness the way I know it is far, far away.  I can nearly stand straight up but my Physical Therapy exercises are minor.  My back continues to have small spasms so increasing activity still isn’t in the cards.  I’m not happy about this because I planned on going all out for the upcoming Women’s Health Magazine event at Britney Spears’ favorite LA workout, Drenched Fitness:

I’ll be at the event with Lori Majewski (who wrote the Britney cover story and is also the co-author of the New Wave backstory bible,  Mad World Book (review here) and Mad World Book blog).

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, I hope you’ll come to the event on 2/18!   If you’re not in LA, sit tight because Drenched Fitness is planning to expand to a few more places in the US!

Family

Family time was fun this weekend.  We even had a visit from Melissa@MelissaRunningIt while she was in town for The Fit Expo.  Jay was away this weekend so Wild Boy had one quiet day at home and we made a quick trip to The Fit Expo on Sunday (my back couldn’t take much).

I didn’t remember The Fit Expo being so loud and crowded last year but then again, I did more classes at the EFC vs spending time at the Expo.   Wild Boy was intrigued by the competitions and the martial arts class tricking class they had for adults and kids.

Fit Expo

The Fit Expo is coming to Chicago (5/2 and 5/3), San Jose (6/13 and 6/14) and Anaheim (8/22 and 8/23).  It’s definitely geared to those people who lift heavy weights but they do have a Kid Friendly designed area of the expo.  Be prepared to pay extra for entry to the Kid Friendly area though.  We were there for a short time.  We paid $10 to get Wild Boy into the Expo and I certainly wasn’t going to pay another $15/hour for him to climb in a bouncy area.

However, if you’re a fitness enthusiast, see if the Evolution Fitness Conference is associated with any of the upcoming Fit Expos but leave the kids at home so you can check out the variety of fitness classes offered.

Duran Duran, music, 80's music, New Wave, Tuesday Tune-Up

I’ll start with the non-Duran Duran stuff first:  Did you watch the Grammy’s?  I didn’t but saw clips.  Can I tell you how happy I was to see AC/DC rocking it out as the opener?  I’ve been a long time fan and it was great to let some real rockers show the generation of auto tune, how it’s done.  However, did it seem like they slowed “Highway To Hell” down a few beats or am I just getting really old?

The Duran Duran stuff:  Don’t get me started that Simon Le Bon was in Los Angeles to honor Nile Rodgers on his Vanguard Award by the MOJAMOJA Innovation Fund last week.  So close but yet so far….

As an early birthday gift to myself, I decided to buy this very cool Duran Duran Seven and The Ragged Tiger 1984 concert t-shirt made into a tank top from Time Travel Tees (who have an Etsy shop and an ebay store) .  I’m kind of in love with it!

Jay understands my Duran Duran devotion so much that he didn’t cash this Duran Duran $5 chip from the Hard Rock Casino but he brought it home so I could add it to my collectors items.  The lyrics from Rio, “I’ll take my chance ’cause luck is on my side” are on the chip itself and I think that’s very cool:

Finally!  So what do you say?  Let’s #breaktheinternet on February 14th (my birthday)!

Forget Kim Kardashian’s ass, let’s break the internet with Simon’s ‘stache: #stachingonthevalentine.

#stachingonthevalentine #breaktheinternet, Simon Le Bon, Duran Duran, moustache

I’m no graphic artist but I like the way that this came out!

I’ve been very clear that I’m not a fan of Simon Le Bon’s ‘stache (my goodbye post to last year’s ringmaster ‘stache is here)  but in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m joining the #stachingonthevalentine movement created by two fellow Duranies, Karen Booth (a Friday’s Featured Female), Krista H and Daily Duranie.

How to help #breaktheinternet with #stachingonthevalentine on 2/14/15:

  1. Take a selfie with a fake mustache.
  2. Tweet ‘stache selfie and tag @duranduran and @simonjclebon with #stachingonthevalentine.
  3. Optional:  Instagram and add tag @mburton0214.

So that’s a summary of what’s been going on in my world this week.

What about you?  Let me know!  I hope to see you #stachingonthevalentine on 2/14!
