Welcome To Tunes For Tuesday – Retro Futura Tour Style!

We’re celebrating the 8th month of the year with the 80′s artists that will be performing as part of the Retro Futura Tour and today’s artist is China Crisis.  China Crisis was one of the New Wave bands out of Liverpool (like OMD, Echo and The Bunnymen, Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes To Hollywood) in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

China Crisis always seemed like synth music with soul.  I always considered them the intelligent, cool voiced band and I guess it shouldn’t surprise me to find out that Walter Becker of Steely Dan produced the 1985 third China Crisis album “Flaunt The Imperfection” (thank you Wikipedia).  Listen to “King in a Catholic Style (Wake Up)” or “Black Man Ray” and you can hear the similarities.

There are some great China Crisis tunes like the tunes above and “African and White”, “Arizona Sky”,  “Working with Fire and Steel” and “Wishful Thinking”.  My favorite CC tune is likely “Black Man Ray”.  I found this live clip of the band performing in their hometown of Liverpool and love that the entire audience is singing the song louder than the lead singer Gary Daly.  Hope you enjoy it too!

What concert have you attended where the audience sang a song louder than the artist/band? BTW, if you know the meaning of “Black Man Ray”, I’d love it if you shared.
