Friday's Featured Female – Christine Yu@LoveLifeSurf

Welcome to Friday’s Featured Female!

Friday's Featured Female, #FFF

This weekly series features inspirational stories from admirable women.  IMHO, it’s always good to be reminded of how strength, determination, hard work, heart and ingenuity can impact the quality of one’s life and I’m proud that these women will allow me to share their stories here.

Today’s #FFF is Christine Yu@LoveLifeSurf.  Christine and I have gotten to know one another in two very different and impactful environments that allowed us both to open new and exciting chapters in our lives.  We were social media newbies together at the first NYC Fitness Magazine Meet & Tweet and since then Christine has gone on to become an insightful writer (on her blog and publications like espnW), a fabulous photographer (her yoga selfies are brave and gorgeous) and newly minted yoga instructor!  I’m so proud to call this fabulous lady my friend.

7+ Conferences For Health, Fitness and Nutrition Focused Bloggers in 2014

While going back to school when I was 30 wasn’t my idea of fun, I have always believed that education and learning is a lifelong process and to that end 2014 might just be the year of the conference.  To make sure that my future nutrition private practice and blog can provide the most up to date developments in health and wellness, I’m going to be attending 7 conferences (yes 7!!!) in the next few months.  I wanted to share with you what I think are the top health, fitness and nutrition conferences for bloggers (and anyone else interested in health and wellness) in 2014.

The Unexpected Reason For Being Constantly Tired

I’m always tired.  Not for the expected reasons (too many commitments, getting older or from just being a parent of a child with boundless energy) but instead I’ve always had issues with sleep.  I’ve gone from being able to fall asleep anywhere and at any time in high school (there are photos to prove it but I’m not sharing them) to my varying bouts of insomnia since college.

Sleep, sleep disorders, sleep apnea

I only wish my sleep resembled this image by Sean MacEntee

Not one sleep inducing remedy has ever helped for more than a short time – and I’ve tried them all: melatonin, lavender sprays, hot milk, eye mask, having a sleep routine and medication (both OTC and prescription).  Although I’ll admit, I’m way too cheap to try the $395 Philip Stein sleep bracelet I saw recently in my Instagram feed.

When my annual check up gave no medical indications for my sleep issues, my new doctor suggested an in-home sleep study.  So I wore a crapload of wires to bed for 3 nights in November.  I had a contraption that monitored my breathing via a lovely looking (and feeling) nasal cannula and a pulse oximeter on my finger to measure the levels of oxygen in my blood while a small device recorded my breathing while I slept.  Last week I met with my doctor to get my results and was shocked to find out: […]

Friday's Featured Female – Jill Griffiths of Tree Fitness

This series features inspirational stories from admirable women.  IMHO, it’s always good to be reminded of how strength, determination, hard work, heart and ingenuity can impact the quality of one’s life and I’m proud that these women will allow me to share their stories here.

Today I’m featuring one of my favorite bloggers, Jill Griffiths of Tree Fitness.  We met at FitBloggin’ and roomed together at FitSocial.  Jill wowed me with her sunny personality, fitness outlook and the fact that she’s an entrepreneur (check out her personal training videos on FitFlicks.com), wife and a mother of 3!  Jill also runs a gluten-free household not because it’s the latest fad but because 2 of her 3 kids have celiac disease.   It’s no secret that I’ve referenced my friend Jill more than a few times here on the blog and since she’s very eager to introduce herself, I’ll just stop now and just say – – – Haaaave you met Jill?

Just a quick introduction, my name is Jill Griffiths and I have been in the fitness industry since 1999.  I absolutely love anything Fitness.  Throw in a crazy beat, and I am like little girl in a candy store.  Maybe not the best analogy since I am a CPT, but you catch my drift right?

When Melissa asked me to write a guest post, I was more than excited and willing!  I met Melissa back in June at the FitBloggin convention.  It was kind of by chance that we met up and ultimately became roomies, and we have been connected ever since.  Don’t you love finding friends that you just click with?  Ya, me too.
