John Taylor from Duran Duran is in Los Angeles tonight. He is signing his new book, “In The Pleasure Groove” and I’m not going. It’s not that I couldn’t get a ticket (I could have) or have other commitments. I just don’t want to go.
I LOVE Duran Duran. I mean A LOT! I’ve been a very long time fan and have been known to some of my oldest friends as “the one who used to cry and scream” when Duran videos were on TV. I’ve gone to numerous concerts (even by myself) and I’m a paying member of the fan club but I’m still not going tonight.

While I have the utmost respect for the bass man extraordinaire, follow him on Twitter (@thisistherealJT), and will likely buy his book, the bottom line is that John is not my fantasy husband, Simon Le Bon. Unlike many of the Duran Duran fans when I was younger, my screams were for Simon but not John.
I feel like a bad Duran Duran fan. I could meet a member of my favorite band tonight without having to travel far or pay a ridiculous amount of money (I’ve never met ANY member of the band) but I honestly don’t want to deal with the crowds, the waiting in line, the listening to the ridiculous squeals of groupies or the assaulting visual reminder of just how old I am.
I have a number of Twitter Duran buddies that will be at the reading tonight and I hope they’ll still be friends with me after reading this post. I look forward to seeing their pictures and hearing stories but tonight I’ll be staying home being a fan from afar.
