Next week I’ll be on the East Coast on vacation.  Suffice it to say that I can’t wait to get to New York to see friends, eat great food, take the the subway and say, “No Sleep ‘Til…

Brooklyn, New York, fitness

Yup, that’s me after a run in Brooklyn

I also love to workout in New York.  There are so many different places to workout (both indoors and out) and I plan on hitting some of my favorite spots and I plan to check out some new workout hotspots too.

Here’s where I want to sweat in New York while I’m in town:

For Yoga:

Love.Yoga.Give

  • Prana Power Yoga:  This heated vinyasa studio in Union Square is my favorite heated studio in all of New York.  I’m sad that my favorite teacher (Shayna) won’t be teaching while I’m in town (I missed her last time too) but nearly every class I’ve ever taken at PPY has been amazing and the Union Square area is one of my favorite spots in all of the city.
  • Laughing Lotus Yoga:  Dana and Jasmine of LLY were the ones that helped me fall in love with yoga after I ran my marathon in 1999.  This very well known studio started out with Dana doing Rooftop Yoga in the West Village (they now have two studios, one in New York and one San Francisco) and I was thrilled to find out that Rooftop Yoga will be happening while I’m in town.  I’ve already booked a sweat date with my friend Christine from LoveLifeSurf and I can’t wait!

For General Group Fitness:

Fitbloggin, group fitness, Flash Mob

Poor quality picture noting good quality group fitness fun at Fitbloggin’ (Flash Mob)

  • Lole Showtique, the women’s sportswear line is sponsoring outdoor workouts at Pier 25.  I’ve already signed up for the Uplift Studios date because I definitely want to experience a studio that believes that working out and having an active social life are two key components for a successful woman!
  •  AS ONEa group coached fitness experience that from reading descriptions of what the class might entail (ropes, burpees, pull-ups and I don’t even know what an Airdyne bike is!) I’m already scared.  The very workout knowledgeable FatBottomSlim.com recommended this studio to me when I was came into town last time and I didn’t get the chance to go so I’m hoping (I think) to go this time.

For Group Pilates Reformer Classes:

WundaBar Pilates, WundaFormer

WundaBar Pilates on WundaFormers from WundaBar.com – sadly, they won’t have these in NYC

  • Brooklyn Body Burn: Before there was WundaBar Pilates and the unique WundaFormer, there was the Sebastien Legree and his Megaformer, a type of Pilates Reformer that brought together Pilates, strength training and cardio in a way never seen previously.  While I was in Portland for Fitbloggin’, I took a Megaformer class called Pyrolates at FireBrand Sports  (you Portlanders are lucky – Firebrand is amazing!) and while I’m a loyal WundaGirl, I do have to keep up my Pilates strength while I’m away!.
  • SLT: The acronyn SLT is for Strengthen, Lengthen, Tone some of the key principles of Megaformer teachings.  This is another studio teaching the Lagree Fitness method and even though it’s in Manhattan, it may be easier to go to this studio than the one in Brooklyn!

Just Because:

  • Aqua Studio New York:  Cycling in a pool. Need I say more?  Even though I’m still injured and haven’t taken a spin class since February, I want to try this one desperately!
  • Zumba with Nellie from BrooklynActiveMama: There is only one reason that I would ever consider doing Zumba and it’s Nellie.  I met her at Fitbloggin’ and the fact that she’s a Brooklyn girl and exudes joy is the only reason I’d consider another laugh fest (I mean dance exercise class).  I’m hoping I can make this one happen and maybe have a reunion with Kimberly at ManifestYourself and Brittany from MyOwnBalance.  Maybe if I bribe them with some Jamaican patties from Christie’s near my Brooklyn apartment, it will happen.

  • A Bridge Run: They call to me when I’m in New York.  There’s no way I can miss running over at least one bridge while I’m home!  My Kick Ass 5K deserves a sequel.

Let me be clear – the above list could not contain ALL of the places I’d like to go.  I’m only in town for about 2 weeks!  I’m hoping that by blogging about my intentions that I’ll be more accountable and actually wind up going to all of the places above (and not wimping out).

Wish me luck because I think I’ll need it!  I’ll definitely be sharing my experiences here on Workout Wednesdays soon so check back!

What is the most unique workout you’ve ever done?   Did you fall in love or was it just meh?
