Welcome to the transition from Wunda Wednesdays (now that my 60 Day Challenge is complete) to Workout Wednesdays!
I’ve had a lot of variety in my fitness adventures lately between my intense classes at WundaBar Pilates, the amazing Love.Yoga.Give event at the Pasadena Rose Bowl and the JumpSport Trampoline class at Fitbloggin’ just to name a few.
I’ve been bursting to talk about my special 5K adventure from the #secretvacation I took before Fitbloggin’ and finally, I can reveal the details and share:
The #secretvacation was a nearly a week-long road trip from the Los Angeles area through Santa Barbara, Monterey and San Francisco with a final destination in Napa to surprise one of my best friends for her second 39th birthday!
The family and I had a fantastic time on our road trip exploring our new state. I have so much to share about the trip (including a very special birthday dinner for my friend that will appear in a future post) but the opportunity to have my own #secretvacation 5K in San Francisco proved to be a run like no other!
I’ve been to San Fran only twice before and while I ate and drank my face off, I never found the time to run before. My back was achy from the long car trip but I just had to run. The weather was perfect and the pavement called (you know what I’m talking about Pavey).
Here are just some of the sights I got to see:
The scenery was gorgeous and it was glorious to run but I had one mission and one mission only while in San Francisco (before going to Napa):

Oh no! It’s the 2 people I’m NOT supposed to see in San Fran – my friends! S didn’t know that my family and I were due to meet her two days after this picture was taken!
Keeping a secret birthday surprise from one of your very good friends for months is ridiculously difficult (for me at least)! I couldn’t believe that I nearly spoiled months worth of planning and logistics by almost literally bumping into my friends along the Embarcadero during my unplanned route. The world is big but small.
We all know that I love to run bridges and even though I didn’t get the chance to run over the Golden Gate or the Bay Bridge, this was most definitely a fabulous (and fateful) run! I may not have a medal to remind me of this run but I’m certain that my #secretvacation 5K will forever be one of my most memorable runs.
What is your most memorable run?
Love the picture of you running in to your friends!! Beautiful pictures and fun to read a recap of the trip.
Hee! I LOVE that you included that photo. Seriously, I would never have known it was me!! So gullible . . . 🙂 Love the collage of SF shots. I miss that city – and you, of course. 🙂
That is crazy!!?? I can’t believe that happened to you! I’m so jealous that you got to run in San Fran. I’ve been a few times but never had the chance to run. My most memorable run to date was in Chicago! My hubs and I went there for the first time three years ago and I will never forget running along the lake…and jumping in afterward. I absolutely fell in love with Chicago and hope to run the marathon there someday.
Thank you my friend. Running with you was quite a treat and I hope we get a chance to do it again soon!
Glad you approved. What a coincidence. It’s a run I’ll never, ever forget. So glad we were able to surprise you. Can’t wait to write more about our time in Napa. Love and miss you lots my friend!
Allie: I love Chicago but I haven’t gotten a chance to run there either. I hear the Marathon is a great one because it’s FLAT!!! Chicago has a great energy and I hope to get back there again soon.
That’s hilarious!! I can’t believe they didn’t accidentally turn around and find you! I’ve run the bridge for the SF Half a couple years ago – you have to go back and do it!
Oh and PS – on every vacation, starting back in 09 when I started running, I’ve gone out on my own to run in the morning before The Wife gets up. It’s such a fantastic way to get to know part of a city and *ahem* be alone. 😀
I dream of running, I am still working towards running. It just seems my knees think differently than my mind does… I can’t believe you almost got caught in a big City like SF by the friend you were surprising! wow… I love following all your workout adventures because it’s introduced me to different workouts, can’t wait to see what you discover soon 😀
Maribel: Your body will lyk when/if it’s ready. Running is great but not great on the joints :(. Your words of encouragement and praise always mean a lot to me. Thanks!
Chris: If I can get my back into half running shape, I would love to do the SF Half! Bridges are my thang! I also love to go out and explore new places on a run and get some time to be alone. There’s nothing like running in a new place to explore and clear you head right? Happy training my friend!
