While on my quest not to dwell in the horror of being a parent in the post Sandy Hook world, I was moved to tears during Wild Boy’s school performance of the following song, “The World Is A Rainbow” by Greg and Steve.  I never learned this song when I was a kid and to see those 1st graders all dressed in the colors of the rainbow singing the following words, I lost it.

The world is a rainbow
Filled with many colors
Yellow, black, and white and brown
You see them all around

The world is a rainbow
With many kinds of people
It takes all kinds of people
To make the world go round

Now you be you
And I’ll be me
That’s the way we were meant to be
But the world is a mixing cup
Just look what happens when you stir it up!

The world is rainbow
With many kinds of people
And when we work together
It’s such a sight to see
The world is beautiful when we live in harmony!

Now you be you
And I’ll be me
That’s the way we were meant to be
But the world is a mixing cup
Just look what happens when you stir it up!

With all of the surrounding controversy regarding gun control, mental illness, and for the sick thoughts that Sandy Hook was in retribution for gay marriage in Connecticut (which blows my mind), it’s clear that this simple children’s song needs some wider airplay.
