Hey there! How are you? What’s been going on?
The Tuesday Tune-Up is where we can have a weekly virtual coffee date and catch up a bit.
I was a solo parent for all of last week. Even though I consider myself to be very independent, carrying parental responsibilities alone makes me very anxious. This week however, was much easier than I expected and with this week being Spring Break, I’m happy to have my family all under one roof again. It’s definitely time to celebrate (for many reasons)!
I’m very dedicated to breakfast. I could likely eat it for every meal. Like most people I go through waves of repeating the same breakfast on weekdays because 1) it’s efficient and 2) I’m in ______ phase.
This week, different breakfasts were the plan so I made this delicious dish of avocado toast (smashed avocado, salt, pepper and squeeze of lemon) with scrambled eggs and salsa (coffee consumed but not pictured):
I also gave the seasonal Siggi’s Mango Jalapeño (a seasonal flavor that is only available at Whole Foods – I’m rarely in that store so I’m lucky I saw it) that I mentioned in my ExpoWest trends post from last week. I must admit that this was heavenly and satisfied both a sweet and savory craving. It was silky with only a hint of slight sweet mango (like lime mango not sugary mango) accompanied by a subtle slow spicy burn at the end of each bite.
Siggi’s Mango Jalapeño is not only special because it is seasonal but it’s also a rjoma skyr which means that some cream was added back into the original skyr to make it creamier. This is reason why it is 2% fat content vs. Siggi’s usual 0%. Please don’t be alarmed by the fat content! I just thought it was interesting to learn what rjoma skyr meant.
I wonder what this would taste like in a dip or sauce? I highly recommend you give this a try before its season passes.
I’m still progressing on my mat Pilates work at PT. Gaining strength and stamina after not exercising regularly is frustrating both in mind and deed. I’m working hard to be smart because I have something exciting to announce this week so stay tuned!
I did go for my first bike ride. It was only 28 minutes and less than 4 miles but it felt glorious to be outside and getting some measure of a cardio challenge.
I’m starting my SpineHab Water Therapy class next week so hopefully I’ll be back in more action soon!
Wild Boy and I had a good week together last week while Jay was on vacation. It was good to spend some quality one on one time together. It was also great to see Wild Boy’s debut as catcher in baseball. He loves it because he always gets a chance to touch the ball and wear all of the gear. When he walked on the mound to have a conference with the pitcher, I think the spectators almost fell over with laughter. My kid definitely has the flair for the drama. The games twice plus a practice is definitely quite a commitment though!
I’m thrilled that Jay is home so we can celebrate his birthday (which is today)! We always make plans to spend the day together (the adults play hooky) but since it’s Spring Break and Wild Boy is home from school, have some big plans for a great day to spend together as a family. I’m not a baker but we always bake birthday cakes in our house. Let’s just say that Wild Boy and I planned is an ambitious idea for a birthday cake. I’ll share details next week but I’m thinking more #nailedit vs Pinterest worthy results but we’ll see!
Lots of positive chatter in the Duran world – the album is done, a single name has been released #Pressure Off (with Janelle Monae) and a new recording contract with Warner Bros Records!
It wasn’t easy knowing that the band was in Napa Valley for a surprise set and in Burbank to celebrate their new recording contract. Rumor is that the album will drop in September but that perhaps a single will drop in May. A tour announcement must be coming soon!
If you didn’t catch this article, Coke & Wet: The Power Station Versus Arcadia by Simon Price via The Quietus, give it a read. It’s juicy!
Tomorrow is the David Lynch event! My seats are crap and I’m going by myself but I don’t even care. I get to be at the show and that’s what matters!
Cheers Duran Duran Style (courtesy of my girl Josie@JosiesOrdinaryWorld.com who made decorated the wine glass and made me the amazing charms)!
So that’s a summary of what’s been going on in my world this week.
What’s your dream way to spend a Spring Break vacation?
*******
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I have no affiliation with Siggi’s nor Duran Duran, except for being a fan of both.
I love Sigg’s but all yogurts, I go plain & add in my own stuff. 🙂
I am glad you are getting better. I have a hamstring thing that is better & I can work out but the stretching will not come back completely for a longer time. Much better but still a ways to go!
Now you have my eager to hear the news!!!!!!!!
The Siggi’s seasonal flavor sounds right up my ally! I love the spicy and sweet flavor combo and their yogurt is fabulous. Looks like it was a fun week in your house ( minus the solo parenting) that’s never very fun.
Great update, Melissa! Hope you start feeling stronger soon, and I’m sure the PT is helping you feel more confident. As far as breakfast – I too get in a rut, but I actually don’t mind a routine breakfast. I wish I had spring break! eheheh! 🙂
Injury recovery is never easy, right? Thanks for the good wishes with my recovery. News will come soon!
It was a good week but this one definitely topped it…details to come.
Spring Break as a parent is definitely different than Spring Break as a student.
Thank you for the good wishes and I’ve seen some of your breakfasts, they’re yummy looking.
