Tuesday Tune Up, Weekly Check In, Food, Fitness, Family, Duran Duran

Hey there!  How are you?  What’s been going on with you in the past week?

The Tuesday Tune-Up is where we can have a weekly virtual coffee date and catch up a bit.

I was sick last week, had another friend in town and a week of only 1 post.  Bad blogger!!

I really am working harder to post more regularly in the near future.

Food, Tuesday Tune-Up

Natural Products Expo, (aka #ExpoWest) one of my favorite conference/trade shows of the year was held last week.  Due to my crazy schedule, I only spent the equivalent of day onsite but I did get to see Lindsay@FitandAwesome (this lady just had a baby 10 weeks ago and worked this show like a champ!).

A full post with my predicted food trends and interesting foods for 2015 is forthcoming but as a preview, I give you EXO Cricket Flour Protein Bars (complete with the equivalent of 40 crickets per bar):

Exo Cricket Flour Protein Bar, cricket flour, 40 crickets, protein bar

My predictions for the food trends for 2015 from Expo West 2015 is coming soon.  My prediction powers aren’t half bad – here were my Expo West Prediction Posts for Top 10 in 2014 and Top 3 in 2013.

It was also National Registered Dietitian’s Day on March 11th which is part of National Nutrition month.  I was sick as a dog and wasn’t able to write the post I had planned to honor my fellow RD’s.  It didn’t matter because Linsday@TheLeanGreenBean wrote this fabulous post (and created the image below) supporting two professions I love most:

Lean Green Bean, Lindsay, RD, Registered Dietitians

I also got the chance to connect with 9 Los Angeles based Registered Dietitians (including Caroline@CarolineKaufmanNutrition, McKenzie@NourishRDs, Sharon@SharonPalmer, Vandana@VandanaSheth, @CarolBergSloan @AndreaNGiancoli, Ruth@RuthFrechman, Melissa@SuperKidsNutrition over dinner at the delicious Barbrix in Silverlake (I had the Arancini Balls in Smoked Mozzarella, the Grilled Octopus and a few bites of the Honey Lavender Panna Cotta).

We did spend some time discussing this NYT article about Kraft Singles receiving the Kids Eat Right label (above) from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

RepealTheSeal, AND, Registered Dietitians, RD

I’ll be honest, I’m not thrilled that this is the product that the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics chose to designate with their first KER label and it looks like I’m not the only one.  Yesterday, a group of RD’s set up a petition asking the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics #RepealTheSeal.  If you’d like to sign this petition (Registered Dietitian or not), you can do so here.

Fitness, FitFluential, SweatPink, BurnThis, Tuesday Tune-UP

Starting to utilize the exercise ball, I got last week.  They are not fun to blow up but I’ve gotten some new exercises from my PT to help strengthen my core.  Even the exercises that seem simple, aren’t on a ball.

It’s a lucky thing when 2 fitness events are happening at the same location, right?  Last week I got the chance to attend the trade show for IHRSA (International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association) and LA Marathon Expo.

IHRSA is really geared toward those that manage or work in a health club setting.  There were fitness classes (that I couldn’t attend) and education classes (I attended one) but the Expo is all about seeing the types of equipment, foods and technology available to make your fitness facility top notch.  I did get to watch one of my BBB’s (Best Blogger Buddies), Jill@TreeFitness, shake it with Beto, the developer of Zumba in a live class:

Jill and I also made it over to the LA Marathon Expo.  My love for Health and Fitness Race Expos has been documented and this expo had one thing I had never seen before – a booth focused on mindfulness and meditation by Lululemon.

Lululemon, Run Self Consciously, LA Marathon

Yes, Lululemon has definitely had some bad press in the past but I recently had the opportunity to meet with the LA Maven (Area Manager), Colleen Angeles and became very interested in giving Lululemon a chance with their community outreach efforts.

I loved that this high end retailer wasn’t selling clothing at the Expo but was instead allowing attendees to experience two different guided meditations and providing literature to runners to incorporate mindfulness during the marathon (or any future running).

The booth offered pillows to sit on, headphones to borrow and a flat screen to enhance the guided meditation experience. Mindfulness is definitely hot in the health, fitness and wellness sphere of influence.  I think this booth might be seen at future Expos!

Family

My family bought me a bike from Priority Bicycles for my birthday and Jay and Wild Boy recently put it together for me.  I wasn’t really supposed to be riding it yet but WB and I couldn’t resist taking a Mom-Son ride around the block (he was on his own bike, not pictured here).

Basketball season has ended and baseball has started.  Wild Boy has moved up a level in baseball and will soon be having twice a week games.  Our busy schedule continues!

Duran Duran, music, 80's music, New Wave, Tuesday Tune-Up

It seems that my man Simon Le Bon was in Katy’s Kafe over on duranduranmusic.com (exclusive to members only – taking this screen shot reminded me that I need to renew my membership which is up on 3/19).

Duran Duran

I haven’t listened to the Kafe yet but the girls from DailyDuranie.com gave a good summary right here.

In other 80’s related music news, have you heard about the Lost 80’s Live Tour concert featuring a whole slew of New Wave artists (Gene Loves Jezebel is spelled wrong on this header).  The website is pretty lousy but you can get updates about the tour on their Facebook page (which seems odd).

Lost 80's Live, new wave music

No LA dates announced yet so we’ll see….

So that’s a summary of what’s been going on in my world this week.

What kind of message do you receive seeing the Kids Eat Right label on a package of Kraft Singles?

Disclosure:  This is not a sponsored post.  I was given a complimentary pass to the IHRSA Trade Show but was under no obligation to write about my experience.  All opinions expressed here are my own.
