I haven’t posted in a short while because I’m working on something pretty important to my heart and soul (but that’s another post) but I did make it home to New York after all.

My husband arrived in New York before the Wild Boy and I arrived.  Surprisingly enough, my neighborhood in Brooklyn was largely untouched (except for a few trees down on some streets and in Prospect Park).  A neighbor said it best when she said, “I didn’t even lose cable.”

This was in great contrast to my good friend in Jersey City, NJ who lost her entire renovated basement, lost power for quite a few days, and had no water for over two weeks.

I reconnected with a very old friend from JHS via Facebook who lives on Long Island and she lost everything.  FEMA declared her house uninhabitable but wouldn’t have a place for her and her 3 children until mid-December.  I offered her my apartment in Brooklyn for as long as she needed.  She was appreciative but could not due to the far distance from the epicenter of her and family’s lives.

I had very different plans for my trip home then (or is it than?) I actually experienced.  The plans were self-indulgent and a bit frivilous in a post-Sandy New York.

Right now, I’m thankful for all that I have when so many others have lost.  I have my health (and realize that could change in an instant), friends, family and two wonderful places to call home.

I’ll be going back to California in a few days but this is how my city chose to caption the post Sandy Brooklyn:

Sandy, Brooklyn, New York

Or as it’s been said, “Here’s your hat. What’s your hurry?”

Brooklyn’s got moxie and I love it.  I know I’ll be coming back soon!  Xo
