Today’s post doesn’t quite align with my Workout Wednesday plans.  I’ve been trying to work my To-Do List before I leave to NYC this Friday but I was forced to take a rest day because I got sick.  I tried to fight it but the sneezes kept coming, my eyes were rheumy (I love how descriptive that word is) and knew I was going down for the count when a kid said to me, “Melissa, your face is all red.”  So my post and my plan for yesterday went to hell.

I like to work a plan.  I woke up early on Monday and went to WundaBar Pilates at 6am to start my week off right.  It’s never easy to wake up when it’s dark but the feeling about getting a workout done before the sun is finished rising is pretty amazing, right?  I did a lot of sweating in that class and I’m not sure if it was because the class was especially hard during that early morning or because I was feverish.

Monday was also my first day of Week 1 of the #HolidayShred2013 from Bobbi@NHerShoes.  As a dietitian, I may not need any education on healthy eating but a little kitchen and fitness inspiration certainly doesn’t hurt.  I met Bobbi at FitBloggin‘ and have come to love her and her site. I was also very intrigued about learning more about GPP Fitness (General Physical Preparedness) so I joined the 6 week group.  I’ll be detailing more about this in future posts.

Monday I was a dynamo and yesterday, I fell like a domino.  There was no workout, no post writing, and no productivity whatsoever.  I took medicine to thwart the cold symptoms but I spent my day resting, watching TV and eating this delicious soup made by my very sweet husband.

My unexpected rest day has made me feel a bit better but it’s the “not getting the things done that I planned on doing” that is a bit frustrating.  Listening to the cues of my body over the demands of my brain isn’t always so easy.  As the holidays approach, I’m certain that a lot of us will be running ourselves ragged and ignoring our physical needs to meet the many obligations that arise at this crazy time of year.

To that end, I’m going to try to “Roll With The Changes” (by REO Speedwagon – a great running song BTW) this holiday season.  I’m still going to plan and make to To-Do Lists because that’s who I am, I just hope that I can be a little more flexible with myself so that I don’t wind up sick again.  Nobody wants to miss out on the many great things that the holiday season offers, right?

I hope this post will help you all remember to listen to your body and not let the holiday season hoopla wear you down.

What do you do when you feel sickness coming on?  Vitamin C?  Chicken Soup?  Airborne?  LMK.
