Is Your Love Up For The Valentine Challenge?

February, Love, Books

Made in celebration of my dating anniversary with my husband, Jay (2/5/91) from The Turtles “Happy Together”)

It’s February, the month of LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.   It’s a very special month for me – it’s my birthday and the month that I started dating my husband, Jay, over 20 years ago.  Yes, we celebrate our dating anniversary.  It might sound silly but it’s a sweet tradition that I adore.

Jay did something very unexpected this February and proposed “The Valentine Love Challenge Book Assignment”: we each choose a book for the other to read this month.  I thought this was a scary but brilliant idea so I decided to share it with all of you.

Join me for “The Valentine Love Challenge Book Assignment”

You and your spouse/partner/friend will choose a book for each other to read by February 28th and on Friday, March 1st, you can blog/Tweet/FB/comment here about what book you assigned, what book you were assigned and how both parties felt about the book and the challenge overall. […]

Sounds of Saturday – Beautiful Colours

Today I’ll be running (or walking depending upon what PT says and how my back feels) The Color Run at Dodger Stadium with my fellow Duran friend, Josie.  It’s only fitting that Duran friends doing a race where the object […]

I Get My Back Into My Living…

#13in2013, fitness, sports injury

The picture to the right is not fake.  This is a real place in Temecula, CA.  Honestly, I saw the photo and I thought it was a joke.  However, I also feel like I could be their next patient.

In the past I’ve been to kinesiologists (Debbie Parsons in NYC is fantastic), PT, a well-known NYC sports medicine doctor and most recently an acupuncturist but I’m still an active participant in the injury and reinjury circuit with this back injury.

Last week I saw a new orthopedic surgeon (a runner and triathlete himself) and he said that I didn’t need surgery but recommended physical therapy.  The doctor said it’s likely I can run in the future but that this injury will recur.

Oranges Can Boost Your Mood?

I’m still getting used to the fact that I live in California.  I still marvel at the fact that I get to see this when I wake up in the morning in my very own backyard:

Food & Nutrition, Recipes, NY-LA

Navel Oranges

Seeing orange trees all around does makes me happy.  I’m used to seeing grey and snow (and sometimes grey snow) at this time of year in New York.

However, as I’ve mentioned, I’m also trying not go down Depression Road with this back injury.  I’ve been more than frustrated and in an attempt to make myself feel productive (since I can’t work toward running the #13in2013 rightthissecond), I decided to tackle an attainable goal, improve nutritional intake.  With nutrition, it’s easy to improve intake at just the next meal.  You don’t have to wait for the next day, the next week or the next month. […]

Victory Is Mine!

13in2013, Fitness, Balance

I’m a Family Guy fan.  My first born (black pug), Griffin, is named after the show.  Stewie’s refrain is my mantra right now.

I’ve been depressed about not being able to exercise due to my back injury.  I’ve injured and re-injured my back so often since 2004 it’s ridiculous.

I’ve had to withdraw 3 half marathons in the past 3 years: NYC Half Marathon (2012), Diva Half Marathon (2011), and the  More Magazine/Fitness Magazine (2010) due to reinjury but 2013 will be the year of completing #13in2013. […]

It's Going To Be A Durantastic 2013!

13in2013, Duran Duran

I finished 31 posts in 31 days and now my first post of 2013 deserves to be a Duran Duran one.  I’ll be going to the doctor later today to determine the fate of my running my intended #13in2013 (more on that later) but I’ve been itching to reveal my 13th goal of 2013 and I’ve finally gotten permission to do it so…… […]
