Welcome to Tunes For Tuesday!

This is a record player (for those that don’t know). It played 45’s. Image: Ferrari + caballos + fuerza = cerebro Humano
Welcome to the musical portion of thevalentineRD.com. This series used to be Sounds of Saturday but it seems that people might be busy doing other things on Saturdays and they just don’t have the time to read blogs (or watch videos) so we’ve moved our music to Tuesdays!
Since July is the 7th month of the year, we are going to celebrate Tunes For Tuesday with music of the 1970’s for the 5 Tuesdays of July!
To kick off Tunes For Tuesday, we feature a very young Michael Jackson from 1979 with “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”.
This song has special meaning – it’s a the best mondegreen I’ve ever heard (and it’s from my husband Jay). A mondegreen is the act of mishearing or misinterpreting song lyrics due to sounding like other words and giving the phrase new meaning. A popular example is Phoebe Buffay on “Friends” thinking the lyrics of “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John were “Hold Me Closer Tony Danza”.
Jay’s mondegreen for this song is “Tito. At The Bus Stop” instead of “Keep On With The Force (Don’t Stop)” which has caused hilarity to ensue many, many times. I’ve heard this song a few times in exercise classes lately and couldn’t stop myself from cracking up. This song will never have a Star Wars reference to me. It will always be “Tito. At The Bus Stop.” What about you?
What’s your favorite mondegreen?
Hey! Just wanted to make sure you got my email I sent you yesterday! 🙂
I mondegreen all the time (didn’t know there was a special name for it!). Two of favs: the theme song to So You Think You Can Dance- I thought they were saying “shoo bee doobey dance” instead of “so you think you can dance.” Also, when I was a kid I thought the lyrics to “One More Night” were “One Wal-Nut”. Haha!
My mom always though Billy Idol’s “Eyes without a face” was “Rise without a base” lol

Brittany:
I’ve been a little behind since getting home from Fitbloggin’ and I was getting ready to reach out to Anita from your email. Thanks!
Mondegreens are kind of awesome, aren’t they? Always hilarious. Thanks for the visit!
Monica, that is a good one!
Thanks for teaching me a new word to something that I use all the time. My all time favorite is Madonna’s Isla Bonita. She is singing “I fell in love with San Pedro”. I have confidently been singing “I fell in love with SOME BAGELS!!!” Blame it on me being a NY Jew!
Debbi: Your mondegreen might be one of my most favorite ones ever! Jay brings back bagels every 6-8 weeks when he goes back to NY for business.
I mondegreen like whoa. In fact, I’d wager 95% of the time I have to look up lyrics if I ever want to catch what the singer is saying.
This is a fab song by M.J. though ~ it was off my radar until Pandora kept playing it for me. Now, I can’t get enough 😉
The mondegreen is pretty ubiquitous but fabulous! Let’s get #TitoAtTheBusStop trending!
