The World Is A Rainbow

While on my quest not to dwell in the horror of being a parent in the post Sandy Hook world, I was moved to tears during Wild Boy’s school performance of the following song, “The World Is A Rainbow” by Greg and Steve.  I never learned this song when I was a kid and to see those 1st graders all dressed in the colors of the rainbow singing the following words, I lost it.

Bicoastal Mammogram – LA, Part 2

To get a phone call from these people, the Monday after Thanksgiving saying you need additional images (after a mammogram the previous Wednesday) is a bit unnerving.

Taking A Look Around

I haven’t posted in a short while because I’m working on something pretty important to my heart and soul (but that’s another post) but I did make it home to New York after all.

My husband arrived in New York before the Wild Boy and I arrived.  Surprisingly enough, my neighborhood in Brooklyn was largely untouched (except for a few trees down on some streets and in Prospect Park).  A neighbor said it best when she said, “I didn’t even lose cable.”

This was in great contrast to my good friend in Jersey City, NJ who lost her entire renovated basement, lost power for quite a few days, and had no water for over two weeks.

I reconnected with a very old friend from JHS via Facebook who lives on Long Island and she lost everything.  FEMA declared her house uninhabitable but wouldn’t have a place for her and her 3 children until mid-December.  I offered her my apartment in Brooklyn for as long as she needed.  She was appreciative but could not due to the far distance from the epicenter of her and family’s lives.

I had very different plans for my trip home then (or is it than?) I actually experienced.  The plans were self-indulgent and a bit frivilous in a post-Sandy New York.
