Sounds Of Saturday – Duran Duran/Rio

Roger Taylor of Duran Duran definitely has a cherry ice-cream smile in this shot, don’t you agree?  My “second banana” of the group just turned 53 yesterday and celebrated by DJ’ing a gig in Chicago.

In honor of RT’s birthday, today’s Sounds Of Saturday is a live clip of “Rio” recorded during the Red Carpet Massacre tour.  The clip opens with Roger and happens to show him quite a few times throughout the performance which is nice since even with the closest of concert seats, this cute guy is always back behind the drums. But I'm Dancing On The Valentine

It’s my birthday and every year since 1984 I’ve needed to hear “The Reflex” on my birthday.  When I was younger I imagined that every time I heard the lyrics “…but I’m dancing on the valentine”, it was a special happy birthday message from Simon just for me.  Crazy perhaps […]

An 80's Night Out in L.A.

Music, NY-LA, Duran Duran

The Mint Marquee

Last night I went out for my second “school night” this month and it was a blast.  Two friends of mine and I went to The Mint (established in 1937) to see an 80’s triple bill of tribute (or what I call “cover”) bands: The Curse (The Cure Tribute Band), Rio (Duran Duran Tribute Band) and L.A.vation (U2 Tribute band).

My Friend’s Cover Band started the night with 80’s hits that made me think of dancing with two of my junior high school friends in a basement to Billy Idol.

NY-LA, Music Curse Set List

The first band to go on was The Curse and if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought Robert Smith was singing.  Brian Soto was slightly made up to look like a young Robert but his voice was dead on.  Musically, these guys were terrific and I’d definitely see them again.  One of my friends with me is a tremendous Cure fan and even she approved.

Sounds of Saturday

Today I’m beginning my new series, “Sounds of Saturday” and it wouldn’t be an official ValentineRD kick-off without featuring some Duran Duran, of course.

This is Duran Duran’s “My Own Way” released Nov, 16 1981.   To me, this is vintage Duran Duran at its best.  The guys look young and […]
