Is Your Love Up For The Valentine Challenge?

February, Love, Books

Made in celebration of my dating anniversary with my husband, Jay (2/5/91) from The Turtles “Happy Together”)

It’s February, the month of LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.   It’s a very special month for me – it’s my birthday and the month that I started dating my husband, Jay, over 20 years ago.  Yes, we celebrate our dating anniversary.  It might sound silly but it’s a sweet tradition that I adore.

Jay did something very unexpected this February and proposed “The Valentine Love Challenge Book Assignment”: we each choose a book for the other to read this month.  I thought this was a scary but brilliant idea so I decided to share it with all of you.

Join me for “The Valentine Love Challenge Book Assignment”

You and your spouse/partner/friend will choose a book for each other to read by February 28th and on Friday, March 1st, you can blog/Tweet/FB/comment here about what book you assigned, what book you were assigned and how both parties felt about the book and the challenge overall. […]

Today Is World Cancer Day

Cancer

For those that know me, I don’t usually curse but since today is World Cancer DayI thought this picture (and sentiment) was more than appropriate.

A blogger I respect immensely, Wendy Nielsen, (a cancer survivor herself) brought it to my attention that the organization Stand Up To Cancer has designated today the day that people around the world join together and spread the message that we all stand for the end of cancer.

Cancer affects everyone and the repercussions are devastating.  My world turned upside down when I was 16 and lost my young stepmother.  I also had my own cancer scare myself in 2012 (read here and here).

There are 3 people connected to me that are fighting cancer right now and I wanted the world to know a little more about these brave people: […]

Sounds of Saturday – Beautiful Colours

Today I’ll be running (or walking depending upon what PT says and how my back feels) The Color Run at Dodger Stadium with my fellow Duran friend, Josie.  It’s only fitting that Duran friends doing a race where the object is to get splattered with color to name our team “Beautiful Colours” based on the below featured song.

Hope you enjoy and hopefully have great pictures from the race to share soon.  See you Monday!

Healthy Food Helpers

Happy February – the month of love…and celebrating my birthday (Valentine’s Day).  For the entire month I’m going to focus on things I love.  Everyone could use some more love in their lives and I want to share some with all of you.

I love food and I can talk (or write about it all day long).  In my professional life the one thing people always tell me is that they often find themselves in a food rut.  They don’t love the things they eat but they eat them because they’re familiar.  The below graphic contains some of my favorite “Healthy […]

Sweet And Savory Superstars

I am a snacker. An ideal meal for me is a tapas style one where I have many things to choose from.

I know that finding healthy snacks (that aren’t processed, pre-packaged or pre-portioned) is  a difficult task for so many of us that I came up with my “Sweet and Savory Superstars” and I wanted to share.

Let me know what foods are superstars for you.  When you snack do you crave sweet or savory?

Healthy Timesavers

This week I’m going to focus on nutrition and health on the blog.  If you know anything about my weekend in Vegas (Wild Boy and his au pair/mother’s helper/babysitter both contracted a 24 hour stomach flu) and since it seems that everyone on both the East and West Coasts are battling the flu or some other illness, doing healthy things with the little time we all have each day seems appropriate.

Below is the “Healthy Timesavers” handout I created for a recent “Fit Moms Night Out” event hosted by the Los Angeles perinatal exercise specialist, Jennifer Tucker Johnson, of
