You Dropped A Bomb On Me, Baby!

Nope, not pregnant. Had you thinking there for a minute though, right?
I couldn’t help but sing the 1982’s The Gap Band song “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” in my head after hearing the devastating news from my orthopedist that I will not be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon on June 2nd. […]
Durandemonium!

After months of working with the planning committee, I’m thrilled to announce that registration for the Duran Duran Fan Convention, Durandemonium 2013 has finally arrived! […]
Sounds of Saturday – Sufjan Stevens
As you may know, I’m on the planning committee for the Duran Duran fan convention, Durandemonium 2013 (link here) which will take place in Chicago, IL October 18-20th.
Since tickets for the event went on sale yesterday (link here), I had to pick Sufjan Stevens “Chicago” as today’s Sounds of Saturday. It doesn’t hurt that this video was filmed at my favorite venue in New York, the Beacon Theater.
Enjoy and I’ll see you Monday.
Drugs, Music, And Wonderland Avenue
As Andy Dufrense asked, “Do you trust your wife?” I did, and it got me a month of drug-soaked rock-and-roll with Jim Morrison.
Late in December Melissa mentioned that she was going to read thirteen books in the coming year. Intrigued, I mentioned that it would be an interesting thought for us to select a book for one another to read for the month of February. The goal was to choose a book that the other would never read of their own accord.
She agreed, which was her big mistake. Melissa got one of my all-time favorites, Ender’s Game – a book I’m sure she’d never have picked up of her own accord.
As for me, I got off easy with Wonderland Avenue, the autobiography of The Doors’ publicist Danny Sugerman.
The verdict? I thought Wonderland Avenue was a fun read, even for those who don’t particularly like The Doors.
Sugerman paints a good picture of Los Angeles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, showcasing the rock-and-roll lifestyle in all its glory. From booze to pills to coke to heroin, it seems as if there wasn’t any chemical concoction he didn’t try. The stories involving other high-profile folks like Iggy Pop and McKenzie Philips were particularly interesting. […]
Food Presents – Foodie Pen Pal Reveal +
It is the last day of February and it’s finally Foodie Penpal Reveal Day!
Foodie Penpals was developed in September 2011 by Lindsay who blogs at The Lean Green Bean. Lindsay, a dietetic intern (more Dietitian power!), who clearly understands the universal power of food orchestrates match-ups between US, Canadian and UK residents to exchange “fun, foodie things, local food items or homemade treats” with a $15 limit total.
My foodie penpal, Jenni, from Manhattan, KS received a box full of my favorite Trader Joe’s goodies since I knew there were no TJ stores close-by.
I received the most lovely package from Becca V of IL.
Did you notice a wrapped gift in there? […]
On This Day in 1994 – Daltrey Sings Townshend (Giveaway)
Almost 20 years ago today, I made it to Carnegie Hall. Not because of my musical prowess (I have none) or for a Duran show (I don’t think they’ve ever played there) but as an assistant to the producer of the “Daltrey Sings Townshend” 2 day event celebrating Roger Daltrey’s 50th birthday.
It was my first real job out of college. I was lucky enough during that time to talk to Roger Daltrey on a a regular basis and to have him sing “Happy Birthday” to me is a cherished memory. I now curse time for not having (reasonably sized) cell phones with audio and video available so I could replay it at will. Damn!
This show had a plethora of well-known musicians involved – Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Eddie Vedder, Sinead O’Connor, Lou Reed, David Sanborn, Alice Cooper, Linda Perry, The Spin Doctors and The Chieftains. As a naive 24 year old, I didn’t recognize the greatness until many years later.
