It’s been a bad couple of weeks in the music world. Between Scott Weiland, Lemmy Kilmister, David Bowie and now Glenn Frey, I know I’m not alone in feeling a deeper connection to wanting to hear comforting music. I’m mindful (my Guiding Word of 2016) that music has always made me feel connected to my soul in a way that nothing else can.

Last week I had to create a 30 minute yoga flow sequence and accompanying playlist. While putting the playlist together, I looked at the titles of the songs and realized that they all seemed to be a tribute to David Bowie.
I’ve stated here that I was a Bowie fan but not a dedicated fan by any means. It felt strange to write a post about Bowie but knowing how much of an influence he had on so many of the artists I love today, I figured that there was nothing wrong with sharing those feelings. I never thought that those feelings would translate into the creation of a playlist, but it did. Once I added one more song, the playlist was perfect. The music and sentiment served my project (and my feelings) very well.
Because I can’t seem to shake these feelings of loss and because January seems to be a brutal month in terms of losing major figures in entertainment (the loss of Alan Rickman was felt strongly in my house as well), I’m sharing this special playlist with you. Music really can heal and I’m convinced that it helps keep many of us on this planet sane.
The videos below that make up the playlist contain some live performances and some original videos. I hope that this selection of music might soothe your soul as it has soothed mine lately.
So many losses!
Seriously! It’s been awful.
What a wonderful tribute and what better place to “exercise” some demons then yoga? I’ve been feeling the pull toward my local studio lately and need to make it happen.
If I responded to this comment already, forgive me please. I sometimes am not sure if I’m coming or going. Sometimes “exercising the demons” really is literal. This playlist helped a lot.
Perhaps the yoga needs to come to you….I need to chat with you about making that happen very soon.
You did not but I totally understand the not knowing if you’re coming or going. You have a lot on your plate these days my friend. I so wish I could fly out there to take your Athelta class!! But yes, one way or another, the yoga needs to come to me 🙂 Let’s talk!
We may make things happen yet. My thinking cap is on for a future meet +.
