Welcome to Tunes For Tuesday (80’s Edition) – it’s August so we’re going 80’s!

For today’s Tunes For Tuesday, I’m featuring Echo and The Bunnymen. This band personified my 1980’s experience. I wanted to be goth but I wasn’t. I did wear a black motorcycle jacket and black clothing a good portion of the time but I wasn’t close to being considered goth.
In the late 80’s I was in high school and college and spent a good portion of time going to concerts and New Wave dance clubs with friends. I was reminded by a friend that every time we went to a certain club and Echo’s “Lips Like Sugar” played there was always the same weird guy trying to entice my friends and I to dance with him. He used extremely strange finger movements while on the dance floor. Thinking about it now he looked just perfect for the music scene at that moment in time. The memory made me smile and think about my fellow high school club mates – this is for you Lisa, Robyn and Anju.
What was your favorite song in high school?
Echo! For real? Girl, how do you get in my head every week! <3
Glad you’re loving it. I think I may have to do a crowdsource for some upcoming ones just for fun. LMK what you think of next week’s.
I know Echo and the Bunnymen for their People are Strange cover for The Lost Boys soundtrack.
My favorite song during high school years was Week End by X Japan. At the end of my 10th year I was propelled head first into Japanese rock and visual kei music. Between that and my standard 80s tunes, I completely missed whatever was going on American radio.
I love your obscurity. I still have to listen to your Blue Peter clip. Now that I have wifi in FL, I’ll take a listen!
