Hello there! I’m back. I planned on having my post with my goals for 2014 ready today but after two weeks of being of being on school holiday break, I’m finally resurfacing to the real world (much like my lovely SLB did in the “Hungry Like The Wolf” video clip below).

Simon Le Bon resurfacing in “Hungry Like The Wolf”
If you like me at all please do not mention the recent and very awful Yoplait commercial featuring this, song. If you didn’t see my rants on Twitter or Facebook, I’ll let you know that a piece of me died when I saw the commercial but as I’m known to do, I digress….
I’ve been a little slow putting myself together for the year but in the vein of my 2014 mantra, “How am I going to be an optimist about this?” (brazenly stolen from one of my top 2013 songs “Pompeii” by Bastille), it’s also given me more time to be with my family and attempt to focus on the here and now.
I wish that the “here and now” didn’t include battling strep (at the same time as Jay) but it did include a surprise trip to Legoland, becoming acquainted with Wild Boy’s new favorite movies, “High School Musical 1” and HSM2, a New Year’s eve with friends and fabulous 8.2 mile run along the Rose Parade Route at 4:30am!
At the risk of tooting my own horn, I’m so happy that I was able to run the 8.2 miles. I was nervous for a number of reasons – I slept less than 3 hours beforehand, my unstable back (which held up fine since I went slow and iced/took my anti-inflammatory meds after the run) and because I hadn’t run that distance for well over a year. It wasn’t easy getting up at 3:45am but the feeling of accomplishment at 6 hours into 2014 was definitely the way I wanted to begin 2014.
The future looks bright my friends:
- Tomorrow your weekly musical interludes continue in 2014 with Tunes For Tuesday
- Wednesday, I’ll be posting about my own 2014 goals/resolutions/intentions (whatever you want to call them) and hosting a link-up party to create a support network and check-ins throughout the year
- Friday’s Featured Female returns this week with a member of the Run This Year 2014 team that if you don’t know (and love) already, I can say with all honesty that you’ll be sorry if you don’t read this inspiring woman’s post (and then follow her blog) this week.
Cheers to a fabulous 2014 and since I’m slow, please tell me what’s the best thing that’s happened to you thus far.
Happy 2014 Melissa! I’m so excited for this year! Congrats on the 8.2 miles. That is impressive! Can’t wait to hear your goals.
Happy 2014 yourself lovely! I’m hoping your trip was everything you wanted it to be. I’m looking forward to facing 2014 with you virtually along side. Thanks for the good wishes on the run – it was a feat (for me).
I found it really hard to get back in to the swing of things too. But once I got that first post done it started moving really nicely. I still haven’t sat down to set goals but I will. 🙂 Congrats on your run. That must have been a really cool place to do it!
So excited to hear about your run. That is awesome!
You my dear? Are fantastic. I wish you nothing but HUGE successes in 2014!
Sharon, I hope you’ll get your goals together and join my link up that I’m planning. I checked in once a quarter and even though I didn’t hit every goal I wanted, it was great to be accountable. My run was fantastic and I hope it sets the tone for the 2014 SoCal Ragnar I have planned in April! Thanks for the good wishes and support.
Thank you my friend. It was epic and glorious even in the dark. Happy New Year to you!!
I love everything about your Rose Bowl run!!! Getting up that early is painful to READ, I cannot imagine doing it but oh so worth it, right?
I also joined Run This Year! I look forward to reading your guest post – woot woot!
I am so jealous… being from soCal and now in -degree temps I haven’t run outside in awhile in Chicago… sad.
but happy 2014!!!
Happy 2014! Its gonna be great!
It wasn’t fun to wake up that early but it was a fabulous run and it was great to be back in bed, showered and done with something significant in the New Year by 6:30am. Looking forward to following and supporting my running brethren for Run This Year!
I’m not envying your weather in Chi-town now either. My friends from Chicago are coming to LA in April and they can’t wait. Can’t wait to see your run schedule for 2014.
Happy 2014 to you too, Christie!
The best thing that’s happened so far is that we’ve gotten some gorgeous snow! We waited so long for snow last winter, it’s nice to have had plenty already this year.
Welcome back from your hiatus! We still need to grab coffee sometime! Can’t wait for your link up!
Caitlin
xx
I bet it’s gorgeous Carrie!
I’d love that Caitlin. LMK when you’re free days might be and coordinate.
Happy 2014, love! And kudos on the serious mileage. 🙂
Many thanks. I didn’t think I could do it but now that I have, I’m feeling like Superwoman (I really have to reel it in). Happy 2014 to you too!
