So it’s absolutely no secret that I have a little fascination with 80’s music but I do listen to current music too. Since moving to LA, I spend a lot of time in my car listening to the radio. I kind of love it because not only do I get the chance to hear new music but I have gotten reacquainted with a bunch of my old favorites. My mind was blown yesterday to hear a combination of the old and new with the new song by Eminem called “Bezerk” (link has audio only)!

For those of you that don’t recognize the heavy guitar riff sample, it’s Billy Squier “The Stroke”. I’ve Facebooked and Tweeted many times about how LA radio loves its classic rock. I’ll admit that Billy is one of the many artists of my youth that often get to act as my radio back-up while I sing car karaoke (thank goodness no one can hear me).
I know that I don’t usually post on Thursdays but I heard this mind-melding combination of 80’s and current music that I had to pay homage to Billy Squier today. Here’s a video for “The Stroke” that I hope you enjoy:
Be honest, did you know Billy Squier or is the Eminem song the first you’ve ever heard of him? I won’t judge.
Wait, you spend a lot of time in your car? What? No one does that in LA 🙂 🙂
Fun music today! Thank you!
Of course I LOVE Billy Squier..I have his album YES album somewhere !! LOL
I didn’t really know who Billy Squier was but I definitely know the song Stroke Me!! LOVE the new Eminem one as well. I especially love the video of the tape going into the boom box. Holy flashback!
Loving this song! Kind of hear some Beastie boy influence in it, no? And yeah, I’m old enough to appreciate billy Squier. I have a few of his songs in my iPod!
Tee hee.
LOVE! I can always count on you to be 80’s with me Josie!
Pretty awesome indeed!
Definitely Beastie in there too. Rick Rubin produced it so it makes sense. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who loves Billy Squier!
The Stroke-aaah, roller skating music. he he. I have yet to listen to the Eminem song.
A comment on LA car culture though. I remember getting a new tape, cd, whatever and being able to memorize all of it within a few car rides to work since the commutes are so crazy, but yes, great for listening to music.
So very true my friend. I hate the traffic but love being acquainted and reacquainted with music on a regular basis. I wish I was someone who could write with music – I run with music but I can’t write.
