Life in NY/Life in LA

Sounds of Saturday – The Avett Brothers (I And Love And You)

While I often feature 80’s music on my Sounds of Saturday, The Avett Brothers are (somewhat) contemporary.  I discovered this amazing group via my Tweep, Gerard P.,  who writes an amazing Tumblr site called The Music of Running.   Gerard and I see eye to […]

A NY Sweetheart – Loren Brill

When starting this blog, I never intended to feature women that inspire me but I’ve been lucky to have found a number of women that have blown me away like Rachael Faught from glassofwin.com, Julie Flygare from JulieFlygare.com, Erica Sara from ericasaradesigns.com – whom I haven’t featured yet but should – that I might make this a regular feature on the blog.

Today I’m featuring, Loren Brill, founder and CEO of SweetLorens.comone of my favorite discoveries from the Natural Products Expo/Expo West a few weeks ago.   SweetLorens.com is New York based company featuring all-natural ready-to-bake cookies and brownies made with 100% whole grains and natural sweeteners, and do not contain dairy products or preservatives.

Adventures In Fitness

8578224725_c6a97f6baa_nBeing injured is no fun.  It usually means you’re not able to do to the things you most often do to stay fit.  I haven’t been able to run or cycle since December.

Since my injury, it’s been hard to be strong in mind and body.  I’ve been using Pilates, Core Balance Water Therapy and heated vinyasa yoga to help strengthen my core muscles to aid in getting my mind and body strong again.

Oakley Progression SessionA few weeks ago, I went to the Shape Magazine/Oakley Women’s VIP Progression Session and Ambassador Search Event in San Diego and learned some new ways to stay fit and healthy (even while injured) from some of the current Oakley Ambassadors.

First, we got a chance to do a Bombshell Bootcamp with Cari and Carrie from Houston, Texas.  I didn’t plan on being in the front row and modifying every move but these powerhouse chicks didn’t seem to mind.  We definitely broke a sweat and were warmed up. […]

Biggest Upcoming Trend In Natural Products & Organic Foods

I’m sorry that I didn’t post yesterday.  I had a very busy weekend so I took the day off from blogging.

I know that I gave you 3 of the upcoming food trends that you’re bound to see everywhere in my post here but do you want to know what will be the biggest trend will be in natural products and organic foods?

Socially responsible companies.

Call it the Tom’s Shoes or the Ben & Jerry’s effect, giving back to the community or helping those in need was part of the mission statement and operations of many companies at ExpoWest.  Many of these socially responsible companies are being founded by young entrepreneurs and this is definitely a trend that I admire and I’m certain many can and will get behind when making choices about products to purchase. The Pity Party Turnaround

Tomorrow is my birthday and while I originally had a very exuberant post in mind, my back has started acting up again and I’ve been indulging in my own little pity party.

Wild Boy is in a Lego Phase so…Image by kalexanderson

I’m frustrated that I can’t run and I’ve had to take a step back in PT but I realize that it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the fighters I know and have featured on the blog – Jon, Danny, Helena and even my guest poster Rachael so I’ve decided to buck up and change my attitude. […]

An 80's Night Out in L.A.

Music, NY-LA, Duran Duran

The Mint Marquee

Last night I went out for my second “school night” this month and it was a blast.  Two friends of mine and I went to The Mint (established in 1937) to see an 80’s triple bill of tribute (or what I call “cover”) bands: The Curse (The Cure Tribute Band), Rio (Duran Duran Tribute Band) and L.A.vation (U2 Tribute band).

My Friend’s Cover Band started the night with 80’s hits that made me think of dancing with two of my junior high school friends in a basement to Billy Idol.

NY-LA, Music Curse Set List

The first band to go on was The Curse and if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought Robert Smith was singing.  Brian Soto was slightly made up to look like a young Robert but his voice was dead on.  Musically, these guys were terrific and I’d definitely see them again.  One of my friends with me is a tremendous Cure fan and even she approved.
