On This Day in 1994 – Daltrey Sings Townshend (Giveaway)
Almost 20 years ago today, I made it to Carnegie Hall. Not because of my musical prowess (I have none) or for a Duran show (I don’t think they’ve ever played there) but as an assistant to the producer of the “Daltrey Sings Townshend” 2 day event celebrating Roger Daltrey’s 50th birthday.
It was my first real job out of college. I was lucky enough during that time to talk to Roger Daltrey on a a regular basis and to have him sing “Happy Birthday” to me is a cherished memory. I now curse time for not having (reasonably sized) cell phones with audio and video available so I could replay it at will. Damn!
This show had a plethora of well-known musicians involved – Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Eddie Vedder, Sinead O’Connor, Lou Reed, David Sanborn, Alice Cooper, Linda Perry, The Spin Doctors and The Chieftains. As a naive 24 year old, I didn’t recognize the greatness until many years later.
