Wunda Wednesdays – The WundaChair Is Not For Sitting!
Welcome to Week 6 of Wunda Wednesdays! From May 1st through July 1st, I’ll be participating in a 60 Day Challenge with WundaBar Pilates. I’ll be taking 3-4 classes per week in exchange for documenting my progress weekly here on the blog.
Last week, I shared the requirements to executing a safe (and fun) Pilates Jump. When you Jump you almost get to be lazy because you’re lying down. This week, every kid you know will […]
16 Songs That Can Instantly Make You Think Of A Movie Scene
Are there certain songs that instantly make you think of a scene in a movie? I’m not talking about songs that were made to be part of a movie soundtrack like “Eye Of The Tiger” for Rocky III, “Don’t You (Forget About Me) from the Breakfast Club or even “Time Of My Life” from Dirty Dancing (a movie I detest). I mean a song that was released before it appeared in a movie but now whenever you hear it, your mind instantly conjures up the scene from the movie where it’s been featured. I’ve been listening to a lot more […]
Sounds Of Saturday – Oingo Boingo/Dead Man's Party
Today’s Sounds of Saturday is the brilliant Oingo Boingo with “Dead Man’s Party”. I’m a little embarrassed that I haven’t yet featured Oingo Boingo on this series yet. I had two fish in college, Oingo and Boingo – no joke.
Danny Elfman’s been a little busy scoring films since Oingo Boingo disbanded in 1995 but this is a band that you was amazing live! I’m featuring “Dead Man’s Party” because it was performed in the classic movie “Back To School” and because it brings back great memories for me. Enjoy and I’ll see you Monday!
I Ran, I Ran Not Far Away….
Friday, June 5th was National Running Day. I’ll admit that I’ve done a lot of whining around not being able to run. Last week I even wrote an apology letter to my very neglected running shoes. I even went down to the Race Expo for the half marathon I knew I couldn’t run to see a friend and for fun.
My Twitter stream has been filled with details from various races all over the country and even though I was never really in love with running, the fact that I can’t makes me very wistful so on Wednesday despite feeling like my body was fighting off sickness and my back aching a bit, I went for a run.
I’ve been feeling a little under the weather lately but I knew that I really wanted to do something on National Running Day so I put on my cap from my original 26.2 in 1999 and the race shirt from what was to be my comeback race last week in San Diego (but wasn’t meant to be) and made some literal strides toward my running future.

All San Diego – hat from my 26.2 in 1999 and race shirt from my race that I did not even start in 2013.
It might not have been for very long (or done very fast) but I did it. I’ve been working on getting stronger with my WundaBar Pilates classes but I haven’t really run since I was in NYC and I did my Kick Ass 5K (which was amazing). […]
Wunda Wednesdays – Go Ahead And Jump!
Welcome to Week 5 of Wunda Wednesdays! From May 1st through July 1st, I’ll be participating in a 60 Day Challenge with WundaBar Pilates. I’ll be taking 3-4 classes per week in exchange for documenting my progress weekly here on the blog.
In the past few weeks, I’ve learned a lot not only about Pilates but about my own potential. I’ve been working hard to reach the goals I set forth for phase 2 of this 60 Day Challenge – like taking more time to fuel and refuel my body properly. WundaBar classes three times a week are intense and I need to ensure that I’m taking in the proper amounts of protein and calories to prevent my body from catabolizing my own muscle! I’m also giving greater focus on exercise form. Utilizing the Jump Board properly has proven to one of my greatest challenges thus far so today we are going to learn a little more about what it’s like in a WundaBar class to JUMP!
If you’re an 80’s music freak like me, you hear David Lee Roth of Van Halen singing “Jump” right now, don’t you? WundaBar Pilates jumping is not the DLR “splits in the air” but it’s a type of pylometric exercise. Plyometric exercises are short, fast explosive movements that encourage muscle elasticity and allow the body to be more efficient when workout intensity increases. Jumping exercises help the body to adapt to harder workouts faster. […]
11 Reasons To Go To A Race Health & Fitness Expo
Even though I knew I wasn’t going to run the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Half this past Sunday, I took a trip down to to San Diego on Friday anyway. It was not only a good excuse to see a friend who flew in from New York to run the race, it was a chance to go to the Health & Fitness Expo.
If you haven’t ever been to an Expo, they’re often free (even for non-racers), educational (I learned about the upcoming trends in the natural product and organic food industry from the Natural Products Expo West that I attended in March) and they’re tons of fun.
I’ve heard it said that many people think of the Health & Fitness Expo that precedes a race as little more than “trick-or-treating for runners” but believe it or not, there’s a lot more to an Expo than just picking up lots of product samples, your bib and a race tee. […]
