Welcome to Tunes For Tuesday – The 70’s Edition for July!
It’s the last week of Tunes For Tuesday 70’s Edition and today I’m featuring Joe Jackson. Not Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson but the English singer-songwriter who was known for a few piano hits in the 80’s. Joe was often seen as sullen in his videos but I happen to like his music style. I see a lot of Joe Jackson in soulful piano performers like David Gray.
Today’s hit is “Kinda Kute” off of the 1979 album “I’m The Man”. There’s a little Elvis Costello in this one and so it’s pretty obvious why this song works for me.
I love finding these vintage performance clips and I hope you enjoy this one from 1980:
PS – I didn’t know that Joe Jackson did the piano on Suzanne Vega’s “Left Of Center” from “Pretty In Pink”! It’s one of my favorite movies (and soundtracks) and I feel kind of dumb that I didn’t know this tidbit of trivia.
What’s your tidbit of music trivia that stumps everyone?
I saw Joe Jackson & went – YIKES!! 😉
I LOVE Joe Jackson but I understand he’s got a bit of a prickly personality IRL. I don’t care though, his music is genius.
