I’m in NYC with very limited internet access so today’s post will be a brief one. I’m lucky enough to have a great guest post from Carrie@FamilyFitnessFood on Wednesday and there is a very special Friday’s Featured Female coming at the end of this week so stay tuned!
On Thanksgiving, I’m running the Prospect Park 5M Turkey Trot that I’ve run for a few years in a row now and even though I haven’t been doing too much running lately, I’m a little excited (although it is FREEZING here in NYC).

For each of those 5 miles, I plan on giving thanks for my health and for the love of my family and friends. I’ve had some back issues this year but for all intents and purposes, I’ve been healthy. Last year however, I wasn’t thinking about my health so much, I was thinking about cancer – my neighbor, a 32 year old triathlete, priest and father of two had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer the month before. To make matters worse, right after getting off the plane from NYC, the mother of one my best friends was also given a cancer diagnosis.

One year later, both are doing well post treatment and surgery. Today, I’m linking back to one of my very first posts about a community event that I helped organize to raise funds to help my neighbor and his family. I hope that reading about the Ride For Jon will remind you all how precious life is.
When you think about it, what are you really thankful for this year?
Have a wonderful holiday. Stay warm. And thank you for the reminder that life is precious. I’m glad your friends are fighting and doing well.
This year… I am really grateful for the lessons I have learned this year. I have conquered a few big hurdles. While I still have a few big ones to go that will dribble into 2014, I really feel like more things are possible now than before.
First of all, good luck at the turkey trot! It’s going to be really cold so bundle up!! Second of all, I think it’s really great you are so supportive of your friends with cancer. My younger brother was diagnosed with cancer only a few months after he got married. It was awful but what helped him get through and into remission was the support of those around him, so keep on doing what you’re doing!
Welcome to the east coast! You’re just in time for the arctic blast of air. I was out running today and truly freezing!!! Good luck and have fun on your Turkey Trot and thank you for pointing out how lucky we all are to be healthy. After losing my mom to cancer 20 years ago it’s ALWAYS what I’m most thankful for…and not just around the holidays. Have a great trip and enjoy your family!
It’s freezing here. Aren’t you glad you moved to NYC?? I wish I could run the turkey trot. Have fun and so glad that you are in town!
Carrie: Thank you my friend for all of your well wishes. I hope your Thanksgivakah rocks too!
Kimberly: With your spirit, I know you will achieve all that you set out to do. I just hope you don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t happen in the timeframe you want. I love your devotion and deep heart. Your reminders to be mindful and heartfelt definitely help me out. Happy holidays to you!
Oh my Brittany. I’m hoping that your brother is doing well now. It’s amazing how prevalent cancer is and the fight affects not just those with the diagnosis but all that love that person! I’m so sorry that your brother and his wife had cancer as part of their newlywedhood. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been. It certainly makes you thankful for the here and now as well as the love and support from friends and family. I wish you and your family an even more wonderful Thanksgiving with this news that you’ve shared. If I could hug you, I would. xoxo
Health is something that not everyone is as thankful for as they should be. You are a lucky woman to be evolved enough to incorporate your loss into your gratitude toward healthy living. I’m sure it isn’t easy but that’s why you are fiesty, fearless (except when it comes to planes) and fiery. I’m certain that the holidays are always a little bittersweet for you and please know that I’m thinking of you and sending you lots of love my healthy, happy and very admired friend!
It was so good to see you tonight. I dread this weather but I try to overlook it for the allure that is NYC.
