It’s Tunes For Tuesday and I’m featuring They Might Be Giants…again. I featured this quirky band covering one of my favorite drunk dancing songs, “Tubthumping” but they have so many gems that I needed to feature them again.
I’m a huge fan of TMBG’s album “Flood” and the whole album definitely qualifies “eclectic” but “Birdhouse in Your Soul” is happy and pop-like. I’m not sure that “Your Racist Friend” would go over so well with the general public as my featured song.
I love that TMBG has transitioned into a kids band as well (even though Wild Boy could never get into them) but TMBG holds a special place in my heart – it’s the first concert I ever went to with Jay. We’ve seen them many times since then and they’re always fun.
Enjoy!
Did you ever call TMBG’s Dial-A-Song? If you didn’t, read about this amazing answering machine service that went dark in 2006. It was awesome!
Oh how I love They might be Giants…reminds me of college, and rock climbing in Snow Canyon in St. George Utah…good times.
See, I knew we were meant to be soul sistahs!
LOVE TMBG. Just had to watch your video here and smiled the whole time. I have heard of dial a song but never called in! Love their kids music too. Some of the kids stuff is barely tolerable but I will listen to and enjoy anything they put out for children!
TMBG was a bonding point for my husband and I. They’re just bizarre and brilliant guys. We tried to get Wild Boy into the kids music when he was little but he wasn’t having any of it – he did like Lyle Lovett and Johnny Cash so I couldn’t really complain.
