Yesterday I attended the Fitness Magazine #FitBlogLA event and it was fabulous. I wish I had the energy to share all the details and swag pictures today but traffic in LA is a bitch so I couldn’t get a proper write up done in time to post today. I will give you all the tidbits on Friday but since it’s Workout Wednesday and I’ve been inspired by pursuing fitness in Los Angeles, I’ve come up with a list of the 5 LA fitness experiences I’d like to have before 2013 is over.
1. Stadium Fitness – Pasadena, CA.

Stadium Fitness is a circuit-training workout held at the Rose Bowl Stadium. This company is owned by David and Jodie Liston, an amazing couple who want to make fitness and health accessible to everyone. I’m often one for bootcamp workouts but since David and Jodie also own Stadium Fitness Yoga (which has become my local kula – you might remember that they hosted the Love.Yoga.Give event at the Rose Bowl back in June), I think I’ll give them a try.
2. FitMix Studio – LA

FitMix offers Endurance Pilates, The Mash-Up (Cardio Intervals on a treadmill and Reformer Pilates) and POUND. Since I’ve already done POUND and do a sort of “endurance-like” group reformer Pilates at WundaBar, I think The Mash-Up sounds cool.
3. Slimmons Studio – Beverly Hills

And I want this t-shirt!

Seriously, a class with Richard Simmons in his studio!? Yes, please! What else is there to say?
4. YAS Fitness Centers – Venice, Silverlake, Costa Mesa, DTLA

YAS – Venice location

YAS is a staple in the LA fitness scene. YAS stands for Yoga and Spinning (two of my faves) but they offer separate classes for each. I’m not sure if I want to take the Yoga For Athletes class or just an Indoor Cycling class. Maybe I’ll do a double and check out both?
5. POP Pilates – Equinox, West LA

Christie Griffin from Fitness Magazine and Cassey Ho, Blogilates.com being crazy
Cassey Ho of Blogilates.com was one of the presenters at FitBlogLA and she was just too cute (see picture above for proof). I loved her passion and how she just seemed like the smart and fun friend you always wish you had. When Cassey said she teaches live classes (in addition to her YouTube channel classes), at the gorgeous Equinox (where I took the Dancinerate class with Ilyse Baker), I definitely wanted in!
I definitely have a few other classes on my list (some of them are NYC based but in LA as well) but let’s see if I can get these done first. Anyone with me?
Do you have an LA (or NY-based) fitness class recommendation for me? LMK!
I agree: traffic in LA is a bitch! In total I drove 6+ hrs yesterday. WORTH IT. I learned tons, I’m inspired, and I got to met YOU!
I’m SO mad I didn’t go to Slimmons Studios when I was living in Los Angeles. There’s so many fun, quirky, fitness options there!
Pop Pilates sounds fun! I’d like to try that!
Oh these look like so much fun! I would love to go to one of Cassey’s live classes. The Mashup sounds really cool! I’m definitely up for trying some on your NYC list next time you are here! 🙂
I couldn’t agree with you more on how awesome of a day it was yesterday–the speakers, the venue, our hosts, sponsors, and guests were all fantastic. (And yeah, the swag, well . . . just wow!)
I live in Ventura, so LA for fitness doesn’t really happen considering it takes like five hours to get anywhere on our freeways now, but if I were there–I’m so with you on a class with Richard Simmons!
It was so good to meet you too, Cynthia. I do wish that we had more time to chat though!
Kayla, it looks like we switched places (I’m from NY and now in LA). Can’t wait to learn more about you and your blog! Thank you for stopping by. NYC has some awesome places to workout too. I’m looking forward to checking out a few when I’m back at Thanksgiving. If you haven’t tried Aqua (pool cycling), you should!
Cynthia, maybe you can plan an LA trip down and we can get a group together to go to Blogilates?
I’ll be home during Thanksgiving week so lmk if you’ll be around Brittany.
Debi: I’ve only been to Ventura once (as a transplanted NY’er for the past year I haven’t gotten around too much) but it’s such a cute town! I think we need to get some of the LA area fitness bloggers together for a fitness event (maybe even a Blogilates class or something)!
That is an awesome idea!
I’m so mad at myself – I put FitBlogLA in my calendar for TOMORROW, and Tony Horton was there! 🙁
Great list!
I’ve tried two of the five (Yas and FitMix) but I am DYING to try Russel Simmons class. It sounds so fun/funny! And after hearing Cassey speak, she’s definitely on my list as well.
Down to do any of them with you soon though! xo
Can I get the Richard Simmons t-shirt even if I don’t work out there? OMG that is hilarious!! I’m actually on a flight at this very moment to LAX. If I get stuck there (like I was stuck in Chicago!) I will tweet you!! This has been the worst flight day EVER! Sorry…just had to vent that to you.
I’m still dying to try aqua cycling in NYC. & aero yoga too!
Let’s see if we can make it happen in the new year. Thanksgiving and the winter holidays are crazy for everyone.
Wendy, it was pretty fabulous but I think they’ll be back next year. If you tweet regularly, tweet to Christie Griffin, use the hashtag #FitBlogLA and let her know why you missed it. They’ll never forget you….
Whitney: Am I allowed to laugh that you wrote “Russell” Simmons (formerly married to Kimora Lee) instead of “Richard” Simmons? Just a little bit?! I know you worked in celebrity reporting so I’m chuckling a little. It reminds me that I’m old too so I have to laugh.
Let’s make a plan soon – before the holiday craziness sets in! Would love to hear your thoughts on YAS and FitMix too.
I’m hoping by now that you’re safe (and possibly just a little drunk) in Tuscon. I will get you a shirt if you want one as soon as I haul my ass to the 90210 zip code!
I’ll be back in NYC from 11/22-11/29. Any interest in making a fitness date? Would love to invite Brittany and Schnelle too!
Okay I tweeted – next year I’ll be The Woman Who Can’t Calendar.
