Hello there!  I’m back.  I planned on having my post with my goals for 2014 ready today but after two weeks of being of being on school holiday break, I’m finally resurfacing to the real world (much like my lovely SLB did in the “Hungry Like The Wolf” video clip below).

Hungry Like The Wolf, Duran Duran, Simon Le Bon, resurfacing

Simon Le Bon resurfacing in “Hungry Like The Wolf”

If you like me at all please do not mention the recent and very awful Yoplait commercial featuring this, song.  If you didn’t see my rants on Twitter or Facebook, I’ll let you know that a piece of me died when I saw the commercial but as I’m known to do, I digress….

I’ve been a little slow putting myself together for the year but in the vein of my 2014 mantra, “How am I going to be an optimist about this?” (brazenly stolen from one of my top 2013 songs “Pompeii” by Bastille), it’s also given me more time to be with my family and attempt to focus on the here and now.

I wish that the “here and now” didn’t include battling strep (at the same time as Jay) but it did include a surprise trip to Legoland, becoming acquainted with Wild Boy’s new favorite movies, “High School Musical 1” and HSM2, a New Year’s eve with friends and fabulous 8.2 mile run along the Rose Parade Route at 4:30am!

Rose Parade, New Years Day, running

With friends Michele and Syd along the Rose Parade route at about 5:15 am on New Year’s Day.

At the risk of tooting my own horn, I’m so happy that I was able to run the 8.2 miles.  I was nervous for a number of reasons – I slept less than 3 hours beforehand, my unstable back (which held up fine since I went slow and iced/took my anti-inflammatory meds after the run) and because I hadn’t run that distance for well over a year.  It wasn’t easy getting up at 3:45am but the feeling of accomplishment at 6 hours into 2014 was definitely the way I wanted to begin 2014.

The future looks bright my friends:

  • Wednesday, I’ll be posting about my own 2014 goals/resolutions/intentions (whatever you want to call them) and hosting a link-up party to create a support network and check-ins throughout the year
  • Friday’s Featured Female returns this week with a member of the Run This Year 2014 team that if you don’t know (and love) already, I can say with all honesty that you’ll be sorry if you don’t read this inspiring woman’s post (and then follow her blog) this week.

Cheers to a fabulous 2014 and since I’m slow, please tell me what’s the best thing that’s happened to you thus far.
