Happy 4th of July!

It’s an unscheduled post day but today is special.  Today is a day to remember how lucky you might be to live in the United States, a country that allows all of us the freedom to think, do and be who we are.  If you live elsewhere, you can still take some time to reflect on how lucky you are as well.  Why not, right?

In ValentineRD style, I hope you take some time today to think about the 4 things that are at the heart (pun intended) of this blog:

  • Food:  Independence Day is a day celebrated with food.  Enjoy foods you might not often have.  Savor your choices and taste your food.  *I love summer salads and I’m bringing one to a BBQ.
  • Fitness:  Get out and move your body.  Whether you’re going to an exercise class, the pool or participating in an organized run (a Firecracker Run?), show your body that health is important today too.  *I’m going to a heated vinyasa yoga class at Stadium Fitness Yoga to take a class with Katie who led the Love.Yoga.Give event at the Rose Bowl a few weeks back.

Yes, it’s still haunts me that I couldn’t run my #13in2013

  • Family:  It’s a holiday for most people (when I worked in a hospital it wasn’t for me) so if you have the chance to be with family (friends are family too!), take the time to both talk and listen to your cherished ones.  *I’ll be with Jay and Wild Boy and some new friends.  We’ll miss our NYC friends but will see them soon!

Jay and Wild Boy like to have fun!

  • Duran Duran (or some other music that makes you happy):  I love Duran Duran and I keep thinking about how I got the chance to see them twice on tour last year (including the closest I’ve ever gotten to Simon Le Bon at Terminal 5 at the fan show last June which is why the below picture is blurry).  #DD14 is coming and I can’t wait!  For me, today is a perfect day to listen to “Taste The Summer”.  So very appropriate for a dietitian who loves Duran.

Happy Independence Day, friends.  I hope it’s fabulous celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness wherever you are!

Talk to me: What song is your summer anthem?
